Welcome to our blog! Here you will find our opinions on the movies we see...and, we see a lot of them! We are not professional movie critics, just movie lovers! Although, who wouldn't love to get paid to watch movies?? That would be the ultimate dream job (she says :) We also write these at different times, so we don't "play" off one another.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
He said: I don't like vampires, including the Twilight Trilogy, so I had no interest in seeing this movie. If Abraham Lincoln was a vampire slayer, then my grandma was Aunt Jemima!
She said: I wanted to see this movie, I'm not sure why. It's about Abraham Lincoln from a child up hunting vampires. The vampires were nasty looking and vicious, but the overall story was kinda out there. It eventually leads you up to the Civil War being about stopping the vampires from ruling America. Not a great movie. Would definitely wait for the dollar movie. But, it does make you wonder....did they really gather up all the silver during the war?? hmmmm....
Magic Mike
He said: As I was walking to see another movie, I saw about 100 women in line to see this movie...and 1 man. And, I thought...what a dumb-@$$!! I would never, ever...may I repeat NEVER watch a movie about male dancers.
She said: OK ladies, I am probably the ONLY woman in America to say this...but I hated this movie. OK, maybe hate is too strong....I strongly disliked this movie. I was so uncomfortable with all the gyrations and bumping and grinding in peoples faces. I had invited some girls for a girls night out with dinner and this movie. And quite honestly, I thought this was going to be more of a love story about how he got OUT of the business. Anyway, I was uncomfortable and so was one of the girls I was with. Not to mention that there were 150 F-bombs, which if you read my blogs, you know I can't stand. That was almost 2 a minute...ridiculous. So, I WOULD NOT recommend this movie....I'd rather stay home with my hubby ;)
Margin Call
He said: This movie is about the ultimate demise of the stock market in 2008. This movie is too smart for me and I didn't understand a lot of the technical terms of the stock market. Good Netflix movie. Grade: C+
She said: This was a Netflix movie that we watched with some friends. All star cast that includes some of my favorite actors...Stanley Tucci and Kevin Spacey. This was about the crash of the stock market during the Fanny Mae/Freddy Mac stuff and I have to say, I had a hard time following it. But, it kept my attention because of the terrific acting. If you don't get easily confused by technical stock market gibberish, then you would probably like this movie.
Snow White and the Huntsman
He said: This movie was actually better than I expected. Charlize Theron was excellent as the Evil Queen. Kristen Stewart did an adequate job as Snow White. I liked the story line and all the magic/sorcery of the movie. This is a good dollar movie. Grade: B-
She said: This was a really good movie. It was dark but action filled. And, Snow White can kick some butt. I thought Charlize Theron did an excellent job as the Evil Queen, cuz I couldn't stand her by the end of the movie!! But, it was a good portrayal of the fairy tale. I'm not a Kristen Stewart fan, but I have to say, she did a good job. I would recommend this movie for sure.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
He said: First let me say that I watched this on a plane, so I didn't catch all the dialogue cuz my headphones were in and out! The movie starred some of my favorite British actors, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith. The movie centers around older people who are drawn to a mysterious hotel in India, all are there for different reasons. Some trying to find something, some trying to forget something. It's about love and loss, hopes and dreams. Very well acted, overall a really good movie. Grade: B+
She said: A quirky little movie about a boy in India that has a dream of running his dad's hotel for people at the end of their lives. The characters were good/funny and it is about following your dreams. We saw this on the plane to St Lucia, and it kept my interest. Again, somewhat predictable, but a cute little rom/com. Entertaing and good actors. Wait for Redbox or dollar movie.
Lawless
He said: A brutal movie about Virginia bootleggers in the 30's. This movie is loosely based on a true story, but you never know how much is really true! The movie had 2 of my favorite actors, Guy Pearce and Tom Hardy, but the movie just didn't connect with me. Definitely not a movie for kids and if you have a weak stomach, not one for adults either. Wait for the dollar movie or Redbox. Grade: C-
She said: Let me just say that this is not usually my type of movie. But, I have to admit that it was pretty good. The language was rough and it was pretty violent, but it is a true story...and, that I like. I had a hard time understanding Tom Hardy somewhat, but I thought the acting was good. It's about some brothers that make their living bootlegging moonshine. I would recommend this movie. Just remember, I warned you about the blood and guts :)
Premium Rush
He said: Movie about a bicycle messenger in Manhattan starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is becoming one of my favorite actors. Those of you who remember the 80's, there was a similar movie called Quicksilver starring Kevin Bacon. However, this movie was much better. The bike riding through the city looked real and kept your heart rate up! The plot was a little weak and the character development could have been better, but overall, a pretty good movie. Grade: B
She said: This movie reminded me of the movie from the 80's called Quicksilver. It's about a bike courier in NYC that is given a package that someone else wants, and will not stop until he gets it. It was action packed, rough language, but overall a good movie. Makes me glad I'm not a bike messenger! Kinda predictable, but entertaining. And, I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is becoming one of my favorite actors. I would recommend this movie.
The Dark Knight Rises
He said: In my humble opinion, this was the best of the Batman movies. Full of action and suspense and I loved the character Bain, played by Tom Hardy. My one complaint is that I wish I could have understood him better. Excellent overall movie. Grade: A-
She said: My favorite Batman movie yet. Action packed, non stop until the end. Story was cohesive, character development good, and acting was good. A great ending to the Batman saga. I would definitely recommend.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green
He said: Interesting concept for a movie. It's about the hopes and dreams of a couple actually coming true, although by extraordinary means. The movie was cute and heart warming, yet predictable. I thought the young child that played Timothy Green did an excellent good. Overall, really good family movie. Grade: B+
She said: This was a cute movie about a couple who long to have children but can't. They put all the character traits of "their child" in a box and bury it. And suddenly, he appears. A family friendly, somewhat predictable movie that made me laugh and cry. Good date/family movie. I would recommend it, and I didn't even want to see it!!

Rock of Ages
He said: I don't do musicals.
She said: Well, as most of you know, I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan. But, I am a fan of musicals. This sound track ROCKS!! Mostly because I love 80's music. This was a typical cheesy story of a girl coming to LA. It was neat how all the songs played into the story line. But, I saw this with my teenage daughter and her friend, and was uncomfortable at some of the scenes. They were blatantly sex scenes, but rather explicit foreplay scenes. Good movie for a cheesy musical.
Prometheus
He said: First of all, I loved the first Alien movie, and I love Ridley Scott. I thought the movie was very well done. I didn't; however, connect with any of the characters and the relationships between the crew seemed forced. It wasn't as scary as I had hoped, but overall it was a pretty good movie. Grade: B-
She said: I'm not a huge Sci-fi fan, but this was a pretty good movie. Typical alien flick...this is supposed to be the prequel to Alien. Had pretty good special effects, and of course, the woman rocks!! Pretty good if you are a sci-fi nut!
People Like Us
He said: I really wanted to see this movie, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed. I wish they would have spent more time developing the story between father and son. I like Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks, and I think they did a good job with the material they were given. For me, Michelle Pfeiffer was the best part of this movie. Her portrayal of the mother was spot on. She has aged in the movies without plastic surgery, and it shows by the lines on her face. Lines only developed from real life. I'd probably wait on the dollar movie for this one. Grade: C+
She said: I liked this movie just ok. It is about a guy whose dad dies and leaves some money to him. But, it's not for him, it's for his sister he never knew he had. I have to say, as you know, I'm not a huge fan of bad language...and this movie had it's share. Also, I am not a fan of kids cussing in movies! I just don't see the point. The 11 year old drops the only F bomb :(. But, I would say this was a pretty good movie. I thought Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks did a good job.
Madea's Witness Protection
He said: Typical Madea movie. For me this has just about run its course. I did not like Eugene Levy as the whiny man in the witness protection program. As usual, Madea was funny, but after the 1000th "hell, damn, hell", it just kinda wears thin. Wait for the dollar movie. Grade: C
She said: I have to admit, I am a fan of Madea. She uses some bad language, but boy is she funny. I liked this movie, it's typical Madea. This movie is about a family that the mob is after so they hide out with Madea. She points out that she doesn't mind the family being white, but it's hard to hide 5 white people in her neighborhood. Tyler Perry does a good job juggling the roles of Madea, Bryan and his dad. And, I love Eugene Levy. Good movie to get some laughs on :)

The Giant Mechanical Man
He said: My kind of movie. A story about human feelings and emotion. About love and a desire to be wanted and to fit in. I'm a big Independent Film fan and I really enjoyed this movie. Grade: B+
She said: Cute Indie type movie. A little slow but good story about 2 people trying to figure out life. I thought it was well acted and the characters were believable. A little known film, but a good movie to watch....our 15 year old daughter even thought it was good.
The Avengers
He said: I'm not a big Superhero movie kind of guy. But all in all it was a pretty good movie. It was much funnier than I expected and the action was pretty cool. It was also a little long for my liking, could have been 10-15 mins shorter, but I would recommend it. Grade: B-
She said: I loved this movie. I'm not a huge Marvel fan, but this movie combined the best of all of the characters. I loved seeing how they interacted and the comedy that was infused throughout the entire movie. Great special effects. A must see...and of course, wait until the very end for a little snippet of things to come!!
Chimpanzee
He said: Family tradition, I always take Taylor to see Disney Nature on Earth Day. This movie was just ok to me. Scenery was beautiful, but this movie could have been 30 mins long. Grade: C
She said: The annual family tradition seeing the Earth Day movie. I love monkeys...I feel like I live with them ;) This movie follows Oscar, an orphaned Chimp. It's amazing how smart these animals are. I thought this was a good movie, a little too long to get the point across, but informative nonetheless. Cute family outing.
The Lucky One
He said: Definite chick flick! Based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. I did enjoy the movie and I felt they spent time developing the characters. Good date movie. Grade: B
She said: I thought Zac Efron did a great job. He has matured into a fine actor in my opinion. I liked this movie...it's a typical love story, feel good kind of movie. I didn't realize it was a Nicholas Sparks movie, so be prepared, there's always someone who dies. I'm gonna read the book now to see how different they are! I would say this is a sweet movie to see as a couple or family. Not too much skin, and I don't remember a lot of bad language. Go see it.
Contraband
He said: Typical formula movie...bad guy turned good guy, turned back bad guy again to protect his family. Not very believable to me. Grade: C-
She said: Wow......F bomb alert!! Action movie with horrible language. If you can get passed all the F bombs, then the movie itself was pretty good. I like seeing how a movie comes together and people get out of situations. Mark Wahlberg doesn't disappoint. Typical bad guy movie....action and language.
The Hunger Games
He said: I never read the book, so I was a little lost in the movie. Overall it was a good movie, not great. I didn't feel a true connection between Katniss, Gale or Peeta. The premise of the movie is just a little out there for me, I just don't like kids running around killing other kids. Grade: C
She said: One of the most anticipated movies of the year. I read all the books!! But, let me say...if you read the books....you'll probably be a little disappointed. The movie was good, don't get me wrong...but, I hate how they change things from the book. I thought the character development was lacking although the acting was pretty good. You can form your own opinion...and....May the odds be ever in your favor :)

The Vow
He said: Well, this is a good date movie...not great, but good. I thought Channing Tatum did a good job. This is based on a true story, which makes it pretty neat. It shows the importance of commitment, regardless of the circumstances. Grade: B
She said: Good movie inspired by true events. This movie is a tearjerker, for sure! Was a little slow at times, but was a good movie. Some bad language, but nothing overboard. The story about a woman who loses her memory of her husband in an accident and the road to recovery. Take your tissues!! Would recommend this one!

Joyful Noise
He said: A pretty good movie, typical/predictable...I had some laughs. Definetly wait for Redbox. Grade: C
She said: Cute movie, cute story....predictable but fun. Good music. A little cheesy but fun for a rental.
Safe House
He said: Me and my son went to see this movie, thought it would be a good "guy" kind of movie. I love Denzel Washington, he's one of my favorite all time actors. The movie was very suspenseful and action packed. It was a typical CIA double crossing type of movie. Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington had great chemistry. Very good movie. Grade: B
She said: I got left behind for this movie.......what in the world were they thinking??!! I WILL see this movie at some point!!
Man on a Ledge
He said: This was a so so movie. Nothing great, I would definetly wait for Redbox. It's just not a very memorable movie. Grade: C
She said: This is my kind of movie. I like when a movie has a smart plan of action going on in it. This movie is about a man that apparently is going to jump off a building. In the meantime, he is really working on clearing his name. Some humor and slightly predictable, but entertaining nonetheless.
The Woman in Black
He said: I don't like these kinds of movies so I didn't see it.
She said: I love scary movies! This one was pretty good. Had some jumpy, palm sweating moments. I watched this with my daughter who hates scary movies, so that made it pretty fun. If you like scary, you'll probably like this one.
The Ides of March
He said: I wanted to see this movie because of the stars Ryan Gosling, George Clooney and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This is a movie about politics and would probably not be very appealing to a lot of people. However, I thought it was very smart, well written and very well written. Simply said, I loved this movie. Grade: A.
She said: Let me just say that I hate politics!! No, that's putting it lightly....I LOATHE politics!! But, I loved this movie!! Excellent cast, excellent movie. It's about a campaign manager that believes wholeheartedly in the goodness of his Governor and in the difference he can make as President if elected. And, he will do or say anything to get him elected. During the course of the movie, he is exposed to incriminating information, corrupt and underhanded dealings of the opposing candidate and begins to understand how power plays into everything. Excellent movie, some skin and lots of F-bomb.
The Descendants
He said: I wanted to see this movie because it is nominated for several Academy Awards. And, to be honest with you, I was a little disappointed. I would say it's an average movie, but not great. Language was rough. Grade: C
She said: Excellent movie about love and betrayal, life and death, anger and forgiveness, growing up and letting go. Emotions run strong in this one. One word of caution, language is awful! More F-bombs than I could count!! We happened to watch this with our teenage daughter (don't recommend that), think we all cried at some point. She did say the next day in the car on the way to school, "I hope I don't hear any F words today!" Anyway, that being said, it was a poignant movie...well acted. I would recommend, but not for youngsters...and if you used a TV guardian, it would be a silent film!!
Moneyball
He said: I saw this movie a while back, so it's a little hard for me to remember. This was a movie about the behind the scenes of baseball. In my opinion, this was probably Brad Pitts best acting performance. It's based on a true story which makes it very intriguing. It's a little slow and if you don't like baseball, you'll probably be a little bored. Good Redbox rental. Grade:B
She said: I liked this movie. It was a little hard for me to follow at times when it came to trading players, but that's just because I don't follow that stuff very well. But, I liked the overall story about how Billy Beane followed his gut and trusted his heart/math and stuck with a plan and came out on top. He didn't let money be his guide. Good movie, true story, rough language, but overall good choice for a rental.

Contagion
He said: Pretty typical virus plaque movie. Think Outbreak/28 Days After without the zombies. A good cast with interesting material to work with. I could see how this could really happen. This is a Redbox kind of movie. Grade: C.
She said: This type movie creeps me out. Just the thought of something like this freaks me out. I liked the way this movie came around in the end...I couldn't see how it was going to come together. I thought it was a pretty good movie for a rental.
War Horse
He said: We saw this movie several weeks ago, so my memory is a little faded. I had high expectations for this movie, and it didn't let me down. A Steven Speilberg directed sweeping epic...loved this movie. Great story and cinematography. Grade: A
She said: This was a very good movie. We saw it as a family. A tear jerker for sure! It was kind of slow, but a good story! Don't remember any bad language, some war time violence. But overall a great movie. Bring tissues. Would recommend this for the family!
