The King's Speech

He said:  I wanted to see this movie because of all the Oscar buzz around it, and I really didn't know what to expect.  I'm not a big Collin Firth fan, but I thought he did a great job in this movie.  Geoffrey Rush was also outstanding as his speech therapist.  The heart of this movie was about the friendship between these 2 men, and the King overcoming his fear.  I would recommend this movie for people who enjoy good stories based on true events.  I will say, when we saw this movie, my wife and I were the youngest people in the theater.  I saw more silver hair in the theater than I did watching the silver back gorillas in "Gorilla's in the Midst".  Grade:  A-

She said:  I have heard so much buzz about this movie that it made me NOT want to see it!  But, I'm glad I did.  I thought it was really good, and I like Collin Firth.  It was moving, and even had some humor in it :)  I could actually feel the frustration that the King had.  I really enjoyed the relationship part of the movie between the king and his "doctor".  But, beware....although it's done in a humorous way, there are some F-bombs and quite a bit of cussing in a few scenes.  All around, a great movie.  I can see why it's nominated for so many Oscars...and, again, another true story...(seems like a lot of the movies we've seen lately are true stories!)

I Am Number Four

He said:  Didn't know what to expect from this "alien" movie, but was pleasantly surprised. Some great special effects including very cool flame guns wielded by the bad aliens. In the end this movie was about a longing to be normal, to have a family, and to find love. Its a true love story which is right up my alley. The acting was much better than I expected and I really enjoyed this movie. Grade B+

She said:  As a general rule, I do NOT like sci-fi movies...BUT...i really liked this movie!  It was action with humor...a combo that appeals to me!  I didn't expect to like the movie this much, but I would definetly recommend this move....good date night flick :)

He said:  This movie was about what I expected.  It was a good movie, not great.  It was suspenseful and had some pretty good action sequences. I liked the intrigue and not knowing the full story until near the end of the movie. Liam Neeson was cast perfectly in this role. Grade B

She said:  I'm a fan of Liam Neeson, and this movie was pretty good.  It was action packed and had me cringing/anticipating/wondering what was going to happen and how.  I was a little confused at the story to begin with, but it worked itself out.  Overall, I thought it was pretty good.

The Eagle

He said:  Another Roman Empire war movie along the lines of Gladiator.  This movie was not nearly as graphic or as good as Gladiator.  I'm not a big Channing Tatum fan, and I thought this movie was a little over his head.  I enjoyed the story line and the friendship between the Roman soldier and his slave.  The movie was a lot about honor and loyalty which are things important to me personally.  I enjoyed the movie, but didn't love it.  Grade: C+

She said:  I don't like this genre of movies, so I had no interest in seeing it...I saw Gonomeo & Juliet instead...read that one, too :)

Gnomeo & Juliet

He said:  I don't see these kinds of movies.

She said:  Basically, if you like Elton John...you'll probably like this movie.  There were a lot of Elton songs and music playing in the background.  The movie was cute (but not the kind of funny that Shrek was) and  the whole idea of gnomes didn't thrill me (I took some girls to go see this one).  The ending is not what you would expect, but probably what you would like to see in the original story.  I would wait to see this one on a rental...wasn't worth the $10 price to see it!

Sanctum

He said:  This movie was visually interesting.  It was about cave exploring, but more about the relationship between father and son.  It was about what you would expect from this type of movie; ie:  a lot of danger/peril/life and death situations.  To be honest, I was a little disappointed, mostly because of the bad language.  This was not a bad movie, but so much bad language makes it bad for me.  Grade:  C

She said:  Deano picked this movie to see on his birthday.  I wasn't sure what it was about, but I liked it.  Of course, you know I'm gonna gripe about the F-bombs....it's just not necessary to the story line.  I liked the story (based on a true one) and the scenery was amazing. I thought the acting was good and the movie was interesting/exciting/well developed.  Overall, I would recommend this movie if you're not taking any children with you, due to language.

It's Kind of a Funny Story

He said:  Interesting name for the movie. It was kinda funny, and kinda serious as well. Suicide is a very serious issue and this movie was centered around people who are depressed, suicidal, or just crazy. It shows the pressure parents can put on their kids without even realizing they are doing it. We as parents think our kids are out of tune and sometimes they are, but we need to listen to their voice and understand their deep desire to be heard for who they are and not for who we want them to be. I love this kind of movie because its about real, deep, emotional stuff. The movie was well done and poingnant. A little too slow for some people ( my wife was alseep 1/2 way through ) butI liked it. Not alot of bad language and the ending was great. We can make a difference in someone elses life even if we are screwed up ourselves.  Grade B

She said:  Well, I didn't make it all the way through this movie!  I did take 2 Benedryl's before we started it, so I'm not sure if it was the medicine that put me to sleep, or the movie!  The movie was kind of slow, but it had a pretty good story going.  I only made it about 1/2 way through, so I can't tell you a lot about it.  But, from what I remember, it was ok.  Not one of those movies you can't wait to tell someone you saw, but ok as a Netflix rental.

The Roommate

He said:  Remember Single White Female from about 15 yrs ago?  It was very similar, only with worse acting.  It's a movie filled with attractive young people, and nothing else.  It was very predictable and not worth the money.  Grade:  D

She said:  I was hoping this was gonna be a good thriller...but, I was let down.  There were a few scenes that made me jump...shower scene's always do that.  But, this movie was pretty predictable and slow.  It really was a bunch of pretty people in a mediocre movie.  Wouldn't pay regular price to see this one! Language wasn't great either!
