127 Hours

He said:  WOW!!  Probably the most intense 2 to 3 minutes I've ever seen in a movie.  This movie was heart breaking, heart wrenching, and a triumph of the human spirit.  I know I couldn't have done what he did, no way!  I think in the end, what I took away from the movie was that regardless of how much we want to do things on our own, we all need help from others.  James Franco deserves to win the Oscar.  Grade: A-

She said:  Wow...this was a powerful movie!  James Franco did a wonderful job!  There was some bad language and a graphic scene when he was stuck under the rock (don't want to give it away, although I'm sure you have heard).  Not for the squimish!!  Some people even left the theater during this scene!!  I can't imagine being in that situation and I don't think I could have done what he did.  But, his will to survive was strong and kept him alive!  I thought this was a good movie, but I wouldn't recommend it as a family movie due to the language and graphic nature!

The Fighter

He said:  First let me say that I'm not a boxing fan.  But this movie turned out to be more about family and relationships than about boxing.  I truely believe the state of Massachusetts invented the F word.  Every movie I've ever seen set in Massachusetts is loaded with F-bombs. (The Town, Goodwill Hunting, etc).  I believe it's part of their common dialogue (much like I would say peanut butter and jelly).  Now, back to the movie...the movie was a little slow for me, but the assorted characters were very well done.  Christian Bale must have lost 30 or 40 lbs to play the cracked out/washed up older brother.  His performance was very realistic and I would say poignant.  Amy Adams showed a side of her I have never seen, but was believable as the feisty "take no crap" girlfriend.  This was one whacked out family!  Not an ideal family, but family nonetheless...and we all need family.  Grade:  C+

She said:  I heard a lot about this movie.  And, I'm probably the only one in America that wasn't blown away by it!  I do think that Christian Bale was phenomenal...but, I thought the movie was pretty slow.  Of course, it was laced with F-bombs!  Too many to even count!!  I couldn't quite figure out the family dynamics although it was briefly explained in the movie.  The acting was good, but I just wasn't thrilled about this movie.  I would have rather it been a dollar movie or Red Box rental.  And, I would not recommend this for a family outing!!

Tron

He said:  First of all, I would like to say that I didn't see the original Tron.  The movie was visually stunning, however, the story was hard to follow.  There wasn't much bad language, hence the PG rating.  I usually love sci fi movies, but I didn't love this movie.  It was an average film with average acting.  Jeff Bridges reminded me of a Zen master.  It felt like I was watching a rerun of Kung Fu (the t.v. series)!  I would recommend this movie if you were seeing it at the $ movie.  Grade:  C

She said:  I had no desire to see this movie, so I didn't go.  My 13 year old daughter did go, and wants to be the "she" in he said/she said.

Daughter said:  Before I saw this movie I thought it was going to be terrible. But, after I saw it I was amazed at how good it was. I thought it was pretty intense and believable, even though it wasnt real. haha. But over all I thought it was very entertaining. Grade: A

p.s.  (and there ya go....insight from a teenager:) ...she said :)

Tangled

He said:  He didn't want to see this movie.....you know, animated and all :)

She said:  This was a cute movie.  I always like an animated movie with a cute animated guy and a funny horse:)  And, the music was good.  And, I cried.  Overall, a feel good cute movie to take the kids to!

Case 39

Gotta love Red Box!!

He said:  Deano doesn't like this kind of movie, so he didn't watch it.

She said:  I LOVE scary movies!  And, this one was a good one.  It had me cringing and jumping, and it was pretty suspensful.  Suffice it to say that some of the peeps in my house wouldn't sleep alone (and, it wasn't my 2 kids :)  There was some bad language.  But, overall it was good.  If you like scary, suspensful movies, then I would recommend this one.

The Kids Are Alright

Send the kids to pick out a Red Box rental, and this is what you get.

He said:  I wanted to see this movie because of the things I had heard about the "great performance" by Annette Benning.  I didn't see it.  I really didn't like much about this movie.  The one positive was it showed how children really need fathers, even though the father in this movie was a jerk.  I can not recommend this movie unless you like lesbians/lesbians who turn straight for sex with a man, and then turn back lesbian. This movie is just way outside my moral compass.  Grade: D-

She said:  Well, I love Mark Ruffalo.  And, Annette Benning nailed her part!  I don't think this movie is appropriate for kids/teens due to the sex scenes which are pretty graphic, and the male porn video clip that is shown.  And, of course, the language is rough.  The acting was good and the story line was kinda believable.  And as Forrest Gump would say, "that's all I gotta say 'bout that"!

Back Up Plan

He said:  "I worked 14 hours, I'm going to bed. You and Taylor can watch it"

She said:  So NOT the movie to watch with your 13 year old daughter, even though it is PG-13.  I should have known better and normally will watch the movie first.  She thought it was hysterical, now I'll tell you from a mom's point of view!  It had a lot of inappropriate scenes dealing with pregnancies/hormones/sex, etc. that made it uncomfortable watching with my daughter.  And the whole birthing scene in the pool of one of her group members was weird.  I didn't feel like the 2 main characters had any chemistry.  The whole movie was awkward and cheesy.  I would not recommend this movie.

Secretariat

He said:  Very good family movie.  Not a big horse racing fan.  And, even though I knew the outcome, the movie kept me interested.  It was a feel good type of movie.  John Malkovic gave a funny performance as the washed-out trainer of this championship horse.  It showed the importance of a woman standing up for what she believes in, even in a man's business (horse racing).  I would definetly recommend this movie.  Grade: B

She said:  I liked the movie, and of course, it's predicatable (because it's a true story!) But, I thought it was a feel good movie. Not a lot of bad language either!  We saw it at the $ movie, and it was worth the dollar.  I just wish I could look in my "dumb dog's" eyes and communicate to him like she does with the horse ;).  Would recommend though!

The Next Three Days

He said:  I'm a big fan of Russell Crowe, but this was not his best movie.  The movie was smart, but unrealistic.  It was fast paced and interesting.  But I just didn't believe this could actually happen.  Grade: C+

She said:  Overall, I liked this movie.  The man was DETERMINED!!  And, smart!  I like to see how things that seem impossible play out.  Good action movie.  Of course, the language was a little rough, but overall I would recommend this movie!

The Social Network

He said:  To be honest, I left the movie theater a little disappointed.  I was expecting a little more depth and insight.  I did, however, feel the acting was very well done.  Justin Timberlake had a fine performance.  The movie shows the pitfalls of greed, money, and power, but also the importance of friendship. If it wasn't for people like that, who started Facebook, then I wouldn't be doing this blog!  The biggest thing I took from the movie is that regardless of your age, you can do something that changes the world (even if you have to steal the idea).  Grade: B+

She said:  I didn't want to see this movie for some reason.  So, I have no comment!  Deano went without me (gasp!)

Red

He said:  I enjoyed the ensemble cast.  I thought the premise of the movie was pretty cool, but the outcome was pretty predictable.  John Malkovich had the funniest lines, even though they were sometimes inappropriate.  It's a movie definetly worth $1, but I would have been disappointed if I would have paid $10.  Grade: C+

She said:  Stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous.  I liked this movie, it had humor and action, even if it is a bit cheesy!  Guess that makes it an action/comedy?  And, only 1 F-bomb..but some other language.  Overall, this was a feel good movie that was a fun date night movie.  I'd recommend it.

Gulliver's Travels

He said:  Jack Black is funny; however, this movie is not!  This may be the worst movie I have seen this year.  However, for kids, it's very appropriate.  So if you want to take your kids to the movies, and get a 2 hour nap in the process, then I would highly recommend it!  Grade: D-

She said:  It was o.k.  Just about what you would expect from this kind of movie.  Predicable with cheesy humor.  Couple of bad words, but that's about it.  I'd say it was stupid/cute and worth a $ on a rainy day, but other than that, you wouldn't be missing much by skipping this one!

True Grit

He said:  I have mixed feelings about this movie.  The young girl, don't know her name, stole the movie in my opinion.  I thought she did a wonderful job!  Jeff Bridges, however, was not belivable as a ruthless cowboy/killer.  He overacted and seemed out of his element.  I'll take the original John Wayne any day.  Grade: C

She said:  Let me start by saying that I have never seen the origianl movie with John Wayne.  I do like Jeff Bridges, though.  There was some bad language and lots of violence, but then again, it's a western!  I think the actress did a great job and overall, I liked this movie.

Black Swan

He said:  I'm a guy, right?  So I don't like ballet!  But, this movie was very intriguing.  If I had to describe it in one word, I would say "disturbing".  In my opinion, Natalie Portman gave the best performance of her career.  Her obsession to obtain perfection made her paranoid and delusional.  She couldn't distinguish between reality and fantasy.  The movie had a darkness about it, but was eerily pleasing in some strange ways.  It was a definate work of art; however, this movie is not for kids/young teens due to a graphic girl on girl sex scene..  Grade: B+

She said:  Wow...this movie was freaky-deaky!  It was very dark but clever.  There is of course, bad language and a doozie of a lesbian sex scene (Deano says girl on girl is different from lesbian, I say...um...ok, whatever?!)...SO not appropriate for kids, in my opinion.  It's one of those movies I left thinking about and trying to figure out.  And, of course, Deano was trying to explain my questions!  Those of you who know me, know I'm not the deep thinker!!

Due Date

He said:  I didn't see this movie.

She said:  Robert Downey, Jr playes a jerk, and boy, did he nail it on the head!  And, there were inappropriate sex scenes that actually made my friend uncomfortable! (I guess I should say it made me uncomfortable too, or that just makes me look bad :)  The language was ridiculous..just laced with F-bombs. I would not want my teenagers to see this movie!  If you like "dumb" funny movies, then you would probably like it, however, I wouldn't recommend this movie!  That's my opinion...just sayin'!

Buried

OK...so here's another Red Box rental..

He said:  Interesting premise for a movie.  Very intense! Movie never leaves inside of coffin and only stars Ryan Reynolds.  Enjoyed the movie, but language was rough! However, was understandable under the circumstances. I would give this movie a Grade of B, but due to language, I'll make it a Grade: C.  Definetly worth $1.   P.S. This review may be a little hazy after working 14 hours and taking 2 motrin PM's!!

She said:  I wasn't sure about this movie at first because it was filmed entirely in a box.  I was a little aggravated with the no lights thing in and out for a while.  But, once it got going, it was pretty intense!  The language was bad....lots of F-bombs, but again, he was buried in a coffin!  It kept me guessing until the end and I ended up liking the movie a good bit.  Wasn't what I expected (not really sure what I expected).  Would recommend for $1 rental :)

Predators

Ok...I got a free Red Box rental, and this is what I rented.

He said:  Tired..retread!  Predictable, very bad language.  One positve note is that I did think the music was pretty intense and suspensful, but the story line was just non-existant and not worth the time. Grade: D.

She said:  Your average alien slasher!  Language was horrible, no nudity though....lots of killing of aliens/people.  It was ok...and made even better because it was free....don't think I would actually pay to see this one.

Love and Other Drugs

Let me just say that normally we will write this blog together, but, I'm trying to do a few movies while they are fresh in my mind. And, since Deano isn't present at the moment, I'm just gonna give my perspective and add his when I talk to him.  Ok? Ok

He said:  It should have been titled "Sex and Other Drugs"!  This movie was inappropriate on almost every level.  I do not recommend this movie.  Grade: F
She said:  OMG!!!  I should have walked out of this movie!!  I cringed at the language and the sex, sex, sex!!  And, did I mention the sex!!  There was more nudity and inappropriate scenes in this movie...I'm not sure how it didn't get an X rating!!  That being said, the story line was actually a good love story, but I would not recommend seeing this and in NO WAY do I think a teenager should see it!  It's sad to me that they put all of the language and sex into this movie, because it had a really good story line.  Why can't Hollywood make a movie that is a little more family friendly?  All of the language and sex would not have taken away from the story line had they left it out...just sayin!  And, again...this is just my opinion...I may be a little wimpy and overprotective when it comes to what our kids are seeing.  It's ok if you don't agree with me!

Burlesque

Ok. So the last movie we saw was Burlesque at the dollar movies.  I'm not sure how to do our format, and I'm sure we will tweak it, but I'm guessing Deano will give his opinion first, then I will...since it is he said, she said.

He said:  he's gotta call me back (he's not here)...but, I can tell you that he liked the movie, too...but, he thought the lighting was horrible! (really, who looks at that stuff, right??)  well, he does and he thought the apartment was always too dark....I just said, "maybe they didn't pay their bill!"  Also, he really thinks Christina can belt it out....but, when I hear from him, and get his actual quote, I'll post a revised answer!!

She said:  I  really liked this movie!  And man, can Christina sing!!  And, it didn't hurt that one of my favorite actors, Stanley Tucci, was in it either :)  I don't really remember any cuss words (although, i wasn't watching it with my kids, so I wouldn't cringe when I heard them), and, surprisingly, not any nudity (that you could actually see anything).  There was a lot of skin showing though.  I thought the story was good and it was basically a "feel good" movie.  I would recommend it!

He said:  This is straight from the horses mouth, now..so, here it goes... I really enjoyed this movie, not my typical movie but it was well done. PamO said it right, the lighting was too dark for my taste. She was wrong about the language. There were two F Words and several other uses of not so nice words. The singing was simply amazing, both Cher and Christina made it seem simple. The love story angle was a little weak to me, and I didn't feel they explored enough of the relationship between the two " room mates" There was plenty of skin but no real nudity in the movie. I would recommend seeing this movie if you like music, but would shy away from letting younger teens see it because of the language. ( thats a personal decision ) Grade B-

Let's get started

Hello!  And welcome to our new blog.  My name is Pamo, and my husband's name is Deano...and we LOVE to go to the movies.  We are starting this blog because a lot of our friends will call to get our opinions on the movies they are going to see.  And, we have had requests to start a blog.  So, here we go.  Now, mind you, these are only our opinions.  Yours may vary from ours, and ours may vary from each other.  I know it's hard to believe, but Dean and I don't always agree on our taste of movies!!  So...we'll each give our opinions and you can take it "with a grain of salt!"
